The Australian Institute of Company Directors has announced Yvonne Messina GAICD as this year’s winner of the WA Regional Director Award for Excellence.
The director award recognises Ms Messina for her contribution to Western Australia’s Regional Rural and Remote community through her board work.
Ms Messina has a background in education spanning both private and government sectors, and for many years she served as principal of Mullewa District High School in the Greater Geraldton region of WA.
Yvonne is currently Deputy Chair of the Geraldton Universities Centre and chairs the GUC’s Hollomby Foundation. She is Chair of Regional Alliance West, a member of the Central Regional TAFE Governing Council and a member of the Department of Communities Regional Appeals Committee - Housing.
Yvonne also leads Regional Development Australia Mid-West and Gascoyne, playing a key role in supporting regional communities and fostering their long term prosperity.
WA Division Council President Jane Cutler congratulated Ms Messina and said the award was acknowledgement of her unwavering commitment to educational excellence and the vital role of tertiary education in regional growth and development.
“Yvonne embodies the l values of excellence and integrity. She leads by example on corporate governance, and actively contributes to organisations that provide essential services to people facing lifestyle challenges.”
Ms Messina said she was honoured to receive the award, which she hoped would help support the ongoing job of delivering impactful services that empower communities and drive sustainable development in regional and remote Western Australia.
