The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) is pleased to announce recipients of the AICD Governance Foundations for Not-for-Profit Directors program in 2022.

The 200 recipients include directors, executives, and emerging directors of not-for-profit and charitable organisations with an annual income of less than $2 million and represent every state in Australia.

By attending the Governance Foundations for Not-for-Profit Directors program recipients will gain valuable skills to support their not-for-profit organisations including understanding of fundamental compliance and performance related roles and responsibilities of directors.

Since 2017, the AICD has provided over 900 scholarships to Not-for-Profit sector leaders with the opportunity to access foundational governance education to build capabilities and govern their organisations more effectively through this program. Again, this year, the Australian Scholarships Foundation has administered this program on behalf of the AICD.

Recipient Dr Anita Goh, Vice President with Science and Technology Australia shares, “I am excited to complete the Governance Foundations for Not-for-Profit Directors course to support my Board role at Science and Technology Australia, where we advance the public good by bringing scientists, technologists, societies, governments, industry, and the community together. This course will level up my skills to be a well-trained, highly skilled individual who provides best practice and evidence-informed leadership in the science and health sectors.”

Tim Hynes, Board Director and Chairperson, Tasmanian Bike Collective which creates places for young people to grow and develop their character and skills for life notes, “I am passionate about the Tasmanian Bike Collective mission and my personal goal is to see it grow, expand, and thrive in the coming years. I'd like to equip myself in the best way possible to lead the organisation forward strongly into the future and I see the AICD course as a key enabler.”

Recipient Naomi Blitz was recently appointed to the Youth Advisory Council WA Board and Finance Subcommittee. YACWA does a tremendous amount to safeguard young people and support advocacy and policy that benefits youth. Naomi shares, “Through my leadership and contribution to various Not-For-Profit (NFP) organisations, I hope to develop my knowledge of corporate governance and particularly to develop skills in financial risk assessment and strategic management.”

AICD Managing Director and CEO, Angus Armour, said, "I want to congratulate the 200 recipients of this year's Not-for-Profit Scholarship Program.

“Good governance is vital to the future of the NFP sector which has unique challenges and increasingly complex operating environments.

“By supporting NFP sector leaders to access governance education, this program aims to help build their capabilities and govern their organisations more effectively.”

The Australian Scholarships Foundation’s CEO, Louisa Graham, also acknowledged the importance of governance education.

“Most board members support not-for-profits voluntarily, and training to assist their roles need to be personally funded. By offering professional development scholarships to directors and emerging directors across Australia we continue to make a significant contribution to the uplift of governance across the sector.”

The Australian Institute of Company Directors is committed to strengthening society through world-class governance. We aim to be the independent and trusted voice of governance, building the capability of a community of leaders for the benefit of society. Our membership of more than 48,000 includes directors and senior leaders from business, government and the not-for-profit sectors.

Australian Scholarships Foundation is a charity focused on delivering training and professional development opportunities to the nation's charities and not-for-profits.
