One of Queensland's leading directors, Dr Jane Wilson FAICD, has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to the Queensland community, being awarded the prestigious 2016 Australian Institute of Company Directors Gold Medal.
Dr Wilson was awarded the 2016 Gold Medal by Queensland Governor His Honourable Paul de Jersey AC in front of industry and business leaders in the State at a gala dinner on Thursday night.
The Award places Dr Wilson in a veritable hall of fame of those who display excellence in directorship and wide-ranging and significant contributions to improving governance in the business and wider community.
The Australian Institute of Company Directors’ Queensland President, Dr Sally Pitkin FAICD, said that Dr Wilson has spent more than 20 years at the board table of significant companies and organisations across diverse industries and sectors.
“As a senior executive and company director, Jane has been at the forefront of commercialisation and innovation, particularly in the health sector,” she said.
“Her expertise and influence has also greatly benefitted the wider Australian community, through her service on educational, government and charitable institutions, including as Deputy Chancellor of the University of Queensland and as a Guardian of the Future Fund.
“Dr Wilson has also made significant contributions to the development of good governance practices and the support and education of company directors through her roles as former President of the Institute's Queensland Divisional Council, and as a member of the national board,” she said.
Dr Wilson said it was a privilege to receive such an award from her peers.
“Coming from a different background in the healthcare field, and then working across multiple industries, has allowed me to ask hard questions that are often taken for granted. It’s a pleasure and an honour to have that contribution recognised.”
Despite holding a diverse range of non-executive directorships, Dr Wilson is looking forward to what the future holds.
“I relish working with innovative ideas and emerging technologies with the potential to change people and communities. I view the speed at which change is happening as an opportunity, rather than a threat. I’m looking forward to what’s next,” she said.
