With Australians set to go to an election on May 3, the AICD has released its election platform, a 3-point plan to revitalise innovation and productivity through better and more fit-for-purpose regulation.
The AICD is calling on the next parliament to adopt a bold reform agenda within its first 100 days—better regulation and a contemporary approach to digital governance and disclosures to drive a revival in productivity and innovation, and a better economic future for all Australians.
Our 3-point plan:
Better regulation, including:
- 12-month freeze on new regulation (unless critically necessary)
- A Minister for Better Regulation
- Expansion of the Financial Services Regulatory Grid
Better digital governance, including:
o De-identification of directors’ personal information on companies registers
- Urgent clarification of data retention laws
- Fund cyber resilience support for not-for-profit organisations
Better targeted disclosures:
- Streamline Mandatory Climate Reporting requirements
- Refocus Modern Slavery reporting for real impact
- Raise corporate reporting thresholds to reflect today’s economy
