Brad Welsh is a senior executive with extensive experience across government, politics, the resources sector, and corporate governance. Since being appointed CE and Managing Director of ERA in 2022, Brad has focused on leading the organisation through highly complex transactions, stakeholder engagement and operational activities while delivering sustainable outcomes. He was the first Indigenous Australian to become a CE and Managing Director of an ASX-listed company in the mining sector. He also serves as a Non-Executive Director for nib Holdings Limited, contributing his expertise to the governance and strategy of a leading health insurer.
Brad is also the Director of Mawal Pty Ltd, a private company that specialises in uniting investors and host communities to deliver mutual value, accelerate projects and unlock the competitive advantage of genuine partnerships.
Brad holds a Master of Mining Engineering (Mine Management) and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales, as well as a Bachelor of Welfare (Aboriginal Community Studies) from the University of Western Sydney. He is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Company Directors Course, equipping him with a strong foundation in governance and strategic leadership.
Brad is recognised for his strong commercial acumen, which he has applied to drive operational excellence and align company growth objectives with long-term value creation. Over a career spanning more than two decades, he has successfully transitioned between senior roles in government, politics, and corporate affairs, building a reputation for adaptability and collaboration.
A proud Muruwari man from north-western New South Wales who grew up in the Aboriginal community of Redfern, Sydney, Brad believes in integrating Indigeneity into the balance sheet, recognising it as a vital contributor to organisational success beyond symbolic gestures. Recognised as the Exceptional Indigenous Person in Queensland Resources in 2020, Brad’s leadership reflects a commitment to fostering meaningful representation and delivering value for stakeholders through inclusion and innovation.
