Mark Irwin

Mayor, City of Stirling , WA

Mark Irwin was born and raised in Scarborough and first joined Council in 2015. He went on to become Mayor of the City of Stirling in 2017 and served the community for two years before becoming the City’s first popularly elected Mayor in 2019. He was re-elected as Mayor in 2023. 


Mark has a degree in Science from the University of Western Australia, a Diploma in Management and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. His strong connection with small business has included serving on the boards of the Stirling Business Association and Small Business Development Corporation. Mark has long held community club and board positions, with the most well-known being the President of Scarboro SLSC and Surf Life Saving WA. He has also recently taken on a role as director of the Northam Avon Descent Committee. Through these leadership roles he has forged successful relationships with local, state and national leaders and agencies.

Mark provides strategic leadership to Council and is dedicated to improving relationships with the community as we build a sustainable City with a local focus. He is proud to lead Western Australia’s largest local government, which is recognised as an award-winning sector-leader in innovation, responsiveness, approachability and transparency.
