Miles is an employment law specialist and assists clients with the range of work in this area including day to day advice, regulatory and other investigations, litigation, the employment aspects of commercial transactions and work, health and safety (WHS) matters.
He is experienced in conducting matters in the Federal Court of Australia and the Equity and Common Law divisions of the NSW Supreme Court (including workplace, employment, injunction (including restraint of trade and breach of confidence) matters and also in the Coronial and District Courts (including WHS matters). Miles is recognised by all the major legal guides including Asia Pacific 500, Best Lawyers, Chambers and the Australian Doyle’s Guide.
Miles’s experience includes advising:
- ASX listed companies and Australian professional service firms in Federal Court and state Supreme Court proceedings in relation to the spectrum of employment matters.
- Lendlease in relation to four Royal Commissions over the last 30 years (including most recently in relation to the current sitting Disability Royal Commission).
- A leading ASX Listed medical services entity in relation to a $10M+ underpayment claim including in relation to retention of accounting experts, rectification of amounts owing and engagement with the regulator.
- A global technology leader on the management of an investigation into, and rectification of, a A$12M + underpayment of staff.
- Westpac on a board-initiated work health and safety review. The review included 260 interviews, 60 site visits and the facilitation of 12 focus groups.
Professional background
Miles is the author of the Australian chapter in Jordan’s “EU and International Employment Law”. Miles has served on Committees at the AICD and AGNSW and is a member of the AGNSW’s President’s Council.
Miles regularly presents to clients and at conferences on employment and related matters. Miles holds a combined Bachelor of Arts and Laws degree from the University of Tasmania.
