Member of WA parliament, Member for Maylands since 2008. Positions held since election include Deputy Speaker, Chair of Committees, Chair of Joint Standing Committee on Office of Children and Young People, Chair of Education and Health Standing Committee Committee; Chair of Australian Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Committee; (former) Spokesperson on Small Business and Women.
In WA Parliament and the welfare sector I am acknowledged as the expert advocate for animal welfare. I have achieved success in proposing & launching WAs first Animal Welfare Grants program (thru the Minister for Agriculture); proposed and achieved amendments to stop the muzzling of non racing greyhounds, created the Stop Puppy Farming Act (acknowledged as global best practice) and many other improvements for animals in WA.
